The Cultural Association for
the study of the Quaternary in the Cantabrian region (ACCUCA) was born as an initiative of
the professionals, volunteers and akin people collaborating in the archaeological and
palaeontological research projects organized from the Prehistory
Lab in Proaza (Asturias, Spain), where the Association is based.
ACCUCA aims to promote the research and
divulgation of Palaeolithic issues, mainly palaeocological aspects relating to the fauna,
flora, landscape and climates contemporary with Quaternary hominids, and their adaptative
strategies before the changing conditions of the Ice Ages.
It aims also to contribute to the
continuing formation of the students and volunteers participating in our
archaeo-palaeontological excavations and other projects, by organizing activities such as
courses, conferences, exhibits, excursions, experimentation and restauration workshops,
translation and discussion of new publications relating to these subjects etc.
The web homepage of ACCUCA is created as a
means of contact and information for all the involved in our research projects, but we
hope it will also be an useful tool to be used by all the involved or interested in the
Quaternary of Northern Spain.
